Good Morning Kossacks and Welcome to Morning Open Thread (MOT)
We're known as the MOTley Crew and you can find us here every morning at 6:30 a.m. Eastern (and perhaps sometimes earlier!). Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanently or just once in awhile. With the Auto Publish feature you can set it and forget it. Sometimes the diarist du jour shows up much later: that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! Volunteer in the comment threads.

A Bad Day Fishing is Better than a Good Day at Work
Those who read me regularly know that I really love my job; but there are times when even that relationship needs a break. I work in commercial construction and, like many jobs, it is somewhat seasonal and remarkably volatile. Some days are bone cold and rainy, others are oven hot and humid. This comes with the territory.
But once a year there is a fishing rodeo that I attend in Grand Isle, Louisiana which is hosted by an association of builders and contractors. And that rodeo starts Friday--which is today in computerland. For three days I will be out on the water with friends angling for speckled trout, redfish, flounder, whatever.
In my youth, my father was a legendary fisherman. At that time in my life he fished to feed his family; when he retired he redoubled his efforts and did it mostly for pleasure. But fishing with him was work, even in the best of conditions. I developed an aversion to fishing for a couple decades, but slowly eased back into the sport with the help of friends and copious amounts of beer. I enjoy it now, look forward to being on the water, and find it relaxing no matter the catch at the end of the day.
The lesson from this story is this: I am out fishing today (and yesterday, and tomorrow) so I will catch up on your pithy, intelligent, even snarky comments when I get back home Sunday night. In the mean time, Joy will assist with comments where needed, Officebss will make sure everyone is properly entertained, and (fair warning) exlrrp is going to be taking names while I'm gone.
Grab your coffee and join us, please.
