I received a letter from Hillary Clinton today. She asks, "Are you with me?" and then proceeds to write four pages about how she is running for President and all the things that she wants to accomplish. Mostly she talks about the things that she has done in the past as a First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State. She mentions being a grandmother and how that has clarified to her the fact that her grandchild has every advantage, but it isn't right that a child who is not the grandchild of a President, Senator, and Secretary of State does not have the same advantages.
It was a very nice letter, as these letters often are, but it did not do anything to convince me that she is going to be any better than anyone else.
The letter came with a contribution card, "V, are you with me?" in which she asked for $20.16, $25, $50, $100, or any other amount I can contribute.
It also had a section with just lines: "Send a Personal Message to Hillary!"
Well... I may have gotten a little carried away.
"I am concerned that Hillary Clinton will take us to war rather than risk being called, 'weak' or some female-centric word intended to mean 'weak.' I am concerned that she will avoid standing up for liberal values for fear of being called 'socialist' or some term that doesn't mean 'socialist,' but is used anyway.
"President Obama has not stood up for our values. He is vicious towards people who reveal shenanigans, and he has taken to blowing people up. We still do not have renewable energy or health care.
"We have opened up Alaska to drilling. We are preparing to send even more jobs overseas.
"I want a liberal president who will fight to get services to our people. I want to know that we are going to avoid war if at all possible. I want our veterans to be cared for as they were promised. I want all military events to be conducted by the military and not corporations. I want all of our citizens to be protected by the police. I want all of our children to have access to full education - and not dependent upon where they live or how wealthy they are.
"I want to hear a plan that will accomplish these things, and I want to see strength, wisdom, education, and compassion.
"The question is not, 'Am I for Hillary?' the question is, 'Is Hillary for me?'"
