Rolling Stone Magazine has thrown Keith Olbermann into their Year Ending "Mavericks, Renegades, and Troublemakers" List. He is joined by George Clooney, Kanye West, Cindy Sheehan, Jack Murtha, Seth McFarlane, Mick Jagger, and Fiona Apple.
Why such an honor? Probably because of his post-Katrina commentary that opened the eyes of many Americans to the follies of the Bush Administration.
"Most chillingly of all, this is the Law and Order and Terror government. It promised protection -- or at least amelioration -- against all threats: conventional, radiological or biological. It has just proved that it cannot save its citizens from a biological weapon called standing water." - Olbermann 9/5/05
Even though his drive drew the attention of the Presdient of NBC, Olbermann stayed humble (in a way).
"...But Olbermann is committed to keeping his punditry in reserve. 'It's not going to be talking points and 'bad guys' and 'good guys' and all of that TV nonsense,' he says, in a shot at Bill O'Reilly. Olbermann compares himself instead to a judicious sniper. 'When I've got the bullets,' he says, 'I get to bring out the gun.'
I see Keith about to have one of his best years ever in 2006. Media Matters is going to have to build a bigger "Olbermann" section. With the Leak Investigation, the 2006 Elections, and Bill O'Reilly going deeper into the abyss that is his own Bullshit, Keith will have plenty to work with.
Go Keith Go!!
