Cindy Taylor reported on February 3rd that the price of one gallon of propane heating fuel was up to $5.00 on the reservation. Please be assured that even a donation of just $5.00 will help. Please accept a heartfelt thank you for your help, and whether you give a rec or a dollar, every little bit will help today. {{{ ♥ }}}

Here is the place to spend a moment thinking of a Valentine you may never meet. The Okiciyap Food Pantry depleted their funds in January to prevent elders in their community from losing electricity and running out of propane.
Propane shortages are real, even when you can get a delivery, it is rarely a full tank and the price is much higher than expected.
Winter is real this year, too. A cold and early start, with no end for many weeks; we are all feeling the misery of a winter we didn't expect to be so harsh.
The Okiciyap Pantry has approximately thirty elders in the community who continue to need help to heat their homes this winter.
A little bit of help from you will go a long way in South Dakota, and be a true blessing for those on small fixed incomes, who must rely on propane or electricity for their heat.
Please, won't you send a Valentine's day gift to someone you haven't met?
For those who would like to help in other ways, it will be wonderful if you will rec/tip/republish/comment in this diary. Some may help by using social media, and others may have items to donate. Another way to help is to write a diary for Okiciyap.
While the pantry needs money to keep the elders warm, everyone else is also freezing on the reservation right now. The pantry has asked people to send blankets, electric heaters, hand warming packs, thermal shirts and pants of all sizes...AND sheets of plastic and duct tape to put up around windows. You can even send one of those window insulation kits from the hardware store. Thank you!!
Winter-stable tape would be even better than duct tape for the plastic!
OKICIYAP BACKGROUND
Okiciyap (we help) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your donation should be tax deductible. Okiciyap, located on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota, is working to provide a food pantry, youth center, K-12 educational support, GED & Lakota as a 2nd language class support for youth and adults. The word Okiciyap is Lakota for "we help."
Okiciyap lost its founder, Georgia Little Shield in April 2012. Georgia was instrumental in the development of the 501(3)(c) status. In early 2012, she found a building, had it moved and set up to house the food pantry and youth center. Now, the Okiciyap Board is stepping forward to insure Georgia's plans for the Isabel community move forward.
Okiciyap is registered with iGive, which means that your online purchases from participating retailers could automatically generate a donation.
The Daily Kos Fundraising for Okiciyap group was formed to support the pantry. More information is available at the Okiciyap diaries published here at Daily Kos.
