Perhaps if American wakes up it might be different, but no one seems motivated. Given the number of same-sex marriage ballot measures in swing states to draw Republican voters, it looks like Romney will soon be our next President.
So lets all face the music and start talking about the hearings.
What was that? You don't know about the hearings? They will no doubt be part of Romney's Pink Commission. Romney's took a pledge requested by the National Organization for Marriage. See this article in the Wall Street Journal.
Under that pledge he promised:
To support a constitutional amendment that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman, defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court, appoint federal judges who don’t see a legal argument for gay marriage and establish a “presidential commission on religious liberty” to protect gay marriage opponents.
Presidential commissions are a rather rare form of executive action taken in extraordinary circumstances. The most recent one was the
National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling
Now isn't that nice. Romney has pledged after taking office to "protect gay marriage opponents". Now what exactly do these billionaires and wealthy groups need the power of the United States President for? Is the commission going to address some pressing world concern?
No, this commission will be all about how to continue to keep Republican donors secret that use same-sex marriage as the pretext to support the Republican party.
Those big donations flowing into stop same-sex marriage have 99% to do with electing Republican candidates and 1% about "protecting marriage".
It is a commission intended to scare those in the LGBT community that their actions to uncover prohibited and illegal campaign contributions made by Republicans will not be tolerated.
Well Mr. future President. My name is Philip B. Maise and I am working hard to take your cronies to Court, expose them for who they really are, and have a Judge decide if they are guilty of violating campaign law. So I guess you can call me first.
